FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
Q – Is karate expensive?
A – Impact Martial Arts is committed to providing the best quality training available, yet keeping the classes affordable. IMA costs much less than other “lesson activities” like piano, ice-skating or gymnastics.
Q – Will adults and kids be in the same classes?
A – Yes and No. While classes are very beneficial to both adults and children, the way you teach a child is different from the way you teach teenagers and adults. We offer our classes so that there is a mixture of ages for some classes and some are more designed to be age-appropriate by separating out the younger students and adults. Testing and ranking systems are based on the abilities and age of the student so that everyone can belt up in ranks.
Q – Do I have to worry about my kids using karate at school?
A – Yes and No. We encourage respect of leadership, build their self-esteem, self-worth, and confidence. This sometimes could be used recklessly if they do not continue coming to class, but we have found that those who don't take the learning seriously are the ones that get in trouble. We can say that when we have had a student end up using karate in school, it's always been in self-defense and never as an aggressor. As a student continues in karate they begin to gain respect for the power that it holds and uses their skills more responsibility as they grow higher in rank.
Q – What ages do you teach?
A – We have had classes for children 4 years of age thru adult, with some adults participating well into their 60′s.
Q – How many days per week do students attend?
A – Our average student attends 1-3 days per week depending on the commitment level and how it fits in their family schedule. We offer specific classes, such as weaponry and higher rank classes as well.
Q – Do you have a program for the serious learner?
A – Absolutely! We get excited when we have a serious learner! In our Black Belt Shorin-Ryu program, we encourage students of all ages to come to more classes per week so that they can earn additional skills, achievements, and higher ranks in a quicker amount of time.
Q – How many students are in each class?
A – On average we try to have a teacher to student ratio of one teacher to about 12-14 students. (Or less than half of the teacher / student ratio of public school classrooms.)
Q – Do I have to be in good shape before I start your classes?
A – No. Our beginner program starts at a basic fitness level and we work you into better shape at your own pace. If you have an injury, you can still participate. We encourage everyone to be mindful of their safety, body's condition, and fitness level and participate at your own ability level, so as not to injure or create additional injury.
Q – Will your karate program help my child with his/her confidence and self-esteem?
A – Yes. Child psychologists tell us that the best way to develop positive self-esteem in kids is to have them in activities that work toward goals, and when they work hard and achieve those goals, they should be rewarded for that achievement. That is exactly what our innovative program has been designed to do. The confidence and life lessons they learn in our program will then transfer to academics, other sports, and everyday activities and behavior at school and home!
